Rao's is absolutely legendary, and for good reason. This spot is undeniably iconic, but it's also one of the hardest reservations in New York City. But now, those who have never been lucky enough to get a seat at one of their coveted tables will have another opportunity. That is, if they happen to be visiting Scotland this summer.
Rao's will be launching its first-ever international residency in the most fascinating and exciting location: In Scotland, at Rusacks St Andrews, a Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts property, overlooking the 18th hole of the Old Course. This will be a residency that will only last four months (from May through September of 2026) and will be a way for a whole new audience to experience Rao's legendary foods in an intimate location at the hotel's One Under Bar.
As Rao's has been around for well over a century, this is a huge new direction for a classic institution. "Rao's has always expanded thoughtfully," agreed a spokesperson for Rao's in an email interview. But why make this big move now?
It was important to choose a spot that aligned with the Rao's vibe and history. "We have considered international opportunities before, but they must align with our values. This residency felt right because of the strength of the partnership and the significance of the setting. The timing allows us to introduce Rao's to a new audience while remaining true to our roots." "Bringing Rao's to St Andrews for the first time in our history is incredibly meaningful to us," he said. "Sharing our Southern Italian heritage in a setting as iconic and storied as Rusacks, overlooking the Old Course, allows us to introduce the spirit of Rao's to a new audience while staying true to the warmth and authenticity that have defined us for nearly 130 years. St Andrews is a legendary institution in its own right, and that sense of history and tradition aligns naturally with Rao's. It felt like a true fit, rooted in legacy, experience, and a shared respect for timeless hospitality."
