Hotel 1928

Originally opened in 1928, Hotel 1928 is the restoration and adaptive reuse of the former Grand Karem Shrine Building. Inspired by Middle Eastern and Moorish architectural influences, the building stands alone as a captivating landmark in the heart of Waco. After 75 years of hosting galas, dinners, charity events, and other social gatherings, the spirited energy that once filled every corner dimmed. In 1995, the building sold to the county. In 2020, together with Chip and Joanna Gaines, AJ Capital re-envisioned this historic building to create a hospitality experience with 33 guest rooms, two dining concepts, and over 6,600 square feet of event space.
